The Goshen Club
The Goshen Club's Healthy lifestyles initative has gained state-wide noteriety, after the Club was recently featured on the front page of Indiana Allliance of Boys & Girls Clubs' monthly newsletter. Members have been working steadily in the garden plot adjacent to the Club, and this year harvested over 1/4 acre of green beans. The beans were canned to use in the meal program, and shared with member families.
When members are given an opportunity to participate in the growing and harvesting of the fresh produce they enjoy during meals and for snacks, they learn to take ownership of food choices that lead to a more healthy and active life. The Club has also been featured in an article written by Elkhart Truth food and city editor Marshall King, featuring their garden efforts and partnerships with local farmers and farmer's markets.
This has been a busy fall, with field trips to Kercher's Orchard, furniture refinishing classes, painted clay sculptures, paper football tournaments, Michiana Youth Sports League and a myriad of other activities and programs. No wonder attendance has been averaging over 350 children per day. The Goshen Club currently has nearly 900 active membes being offered youth development programming in Boys & Girls Clubs of America five core areas.
During the school year, the Boys & Girls Club of Goshen is open Monday-Friday beginning at the end of the school day.
The Club facilities close at 8:00 pm each day. However, various age-specific programs and Club areas close earlier than 8:00 pm depending on the ages of Club members. For more information on hours of operation, please call the Club at (574) 533-4793.
Every member of the Goshen Club is able to enjoy a nutritious snack and hot supper every day, Monday through Friday. Special thanks to the Indiana Department of Education's Child and Adult Care Food Program for providing funding for this effort.*
During the summer months, the Club opens at 10:00 am each day and remains open until 6:00 pm.
Members of the Club's Early Bird Program during the summer may arrive at the Club beginning at 6:30 am. There is a small fee for Early Bird Participation.
